EXTRA WORK

This is the current show I am doing extra work on. I think its for YTV. Serious kids stuff. I had to pretend I was hitting on the lead actor girl (on the right) the other day by her locker. I put my arm around her (improv stylez) and they "CUT". "Too much touching". So yeah if you ever want to be mildly to medium embarrassed and feel like a huge pervert, grab a gig on a under age film set and make human contact. Bummer. She's all like "You smell so good" (which is true). Ok, more shady stories later.

GUV LUV MIXTAPE VOLUME 1 Posting it for Download next weekend. Actual cassettes for order by 2nd week of Feb. Might be the craziest thing I've ever done. Crazy bad? crazy good.. ? I still don't really know. But its funny.

SUMMER GIRL 7" OUT NOW ON SLEEP CITY RECORDS (Portugal)

Something to warm your bones this winter season!
The SUMMER GIRL 7" is finally out!
Let me give you a refresher:

The track appeared originally on the Hidden Love 12", but I redid it with some saxophones and different beat and its much bigger and sounds great. The B side to the record is a reworked version of Fucked Up's "I Hate Summer". I think I called my version "I Heart Summer", and its a really gay / happy lyrical ode to sunny times.. Something I'm sure we are all missing right now (unless you are smart and live in a warm climate). Anyways - this release also comes with a 100+ page very nicely printed book of artwork that is all summer themed. Artists all over the world contributed works, and it turned out amazing. I'm really happy with it. It's a pretty penny to get this thing over from Portugal, but it's worth it (please dont whine to me about the price - I don't care) . Some North American distro's might eventually start carrying it (if they are cool), and record stores in NYC should have some as one of the dudes from Sleep City is living in NYC at the moment.
The cover is me on the beach dressed as my alter-ego, "Jenny".
Limited to 500.

PPD TO PORTUGAL: 12€
PPD TO EUROPE: 15€

PPD TO USA: 20$

also, 'bedtime stories' 7" is no longer coming out in france, it is coming out on South Paw Records from San francisco. Expect that soon too. The layout is kind of offensive and drawn by that chick above. I picked her up at a high school when I was there shooting a movie. HA.

killjoys

the Killjoys played the first show I ever saw. I was 11. Lee's Palace, Toronto. I did a flip into the 'moshpit'. Hayden opened with an acoustic. Blew my mind. Killjoys still hold up. Anyone have the records uploaded anywhere?

New GUV songs STREAMING on MYSPACE

Hey, even though I hate doing it and it feels like I'm spoiling the vinyl surprise I've decided to post some upcoming/recent stuff on my myspace.

The Songs:

Call Me When The Cat Dies -
I believe I've posted about this song a few times (maybe even the entire lyrics somewhere on this blog at one point). I just really like it because its about my cat, and I can't believe how sinister this song sounds.. considering the fact that its a love song!
It will be available on Criminal IQ in the next couple of weeks (check out that new Claw Toe 7" too, its cool). It will be my first release of 2010.

Roommates - Back to The Sun/Girlfriend Swap Cassette -
I made a really bad music video to this 1-2 punch (2 songs connected together on both sides of a cassette on Scotch Tapes kind of 90's effort by me and my roommate, Mark Fosco (of marvelous darlings). Basically it came about while me and him were really stoned one night and I heard him playing the opening riff while I was trying to watch a movie in my room but having a serious A.D.D spell and not being able to sit still. I played drums, he played guitar through a bass amp - and I kept orchestrating more and more parts to which he would respond very well too (with every sip of wine), and one song became 2 and thus this cassette. He convinced me to write the lyrics based around the name "Back To The Sun" which originally I kind of shrugged off as just another Mark idea about wanting every song about beaches, surfing, or "summer nights" - but it turned out well. We are singing at the same time on both songs. While recording vocals Marks girlfriend (Sacha) was sitting there and influenced the theme of Girlfriend Swap (no explanation neccessary). She also contributed a good part of the lyrics, as she is clearly into the idea of "the swap".

The Cutter
This is the B side to a 7" called Bedtime Stories coming out on Plastic Spoons Records sometime in the next couple of months. They are from France. The dude, Abe, works at a clothing company that is also going to put out a Guv record (and The Bitters too). They are uber fashionable, and Paris is fun. Anyways - This song is about a time in my life (late teens) when I spent a lot of time cruising the internet for middle of the night hook ups with girls. I would talk on ICQ and then steal my mums car and drive into the middle of no where usually (or bad neighborhoods) and usually have an awful experience (I have millions of tales to tell) and drive home - where if I hadn't been laughing, I'd surely have been crying. This not so laughable song is about someone I hung out with in the middle of the night in a Mimico Housing Project (west end of Toronto) who was very keen on having wax poured all over her hands. She took much pleasure in cutting herself up and showed me her scars (how do ya like that, Grandma?) , then got really angry for some reason and showed me all the holes she'd punched in her walls. Kind of a dark memory.. no? I hope she's ok. The song is just my retelling of the experience. It always stuck with me.

The A side "Bedtime Stories" has an even more revealing story. The record will feature hand drawn art by Amanda Crist of an old naked saggy skin woman bleeding with penis's all over the back cover... if all goes to plan.

Ok, i've officially said way too much, ruined the mystery, and you might aswell not even go listen at this point.

Peace!

NEW YORK TIMES BLOGGING BITTERS IN THE FOOD DEPARTMENT , YUM

Hello. On my highly rated blog here, I tend to talk about food sometimes. I don't really talk about it in a very interesting or articulate way and feel my writing skills are that of a rebellious teenage goth writing in her diary. However since I am super fancy and a tad pimp, foodies from the NY times like to include projects of mine in their articles about Oysters... and Bitters. Whoever would have thought posting some bitter brands in a myspace page would warrent so much critical foodie acclaim and that we'd somehow be finding ourselves being invited to P DIDDYS resturant in Manhatten (ordering the Mozzie Sticks!) when we are in town on March 12th opening for Real Estate and Woods and staying in the Four Seasons. You think I'm lying.
